MIAMI (AP) -- Derrek Lee hit his 100th career home run, then was upstaged by teammate Brad Penny an inning later.

The Florida Marlins pitcher hit his first career homer on a
broken-bat swing, pulling a 2-0 pitch over the scoreboard to help
beat the Atlanta Braves 7-4 Friday night.

"Now we're going to have to hear about that the rest of the season,'' Lee joked.

The two home runs helped the Marlins win their third game in a row. Chipper Jones hit his second homer of the season for the Braves (4-7), who have been outscored 60-12 in their seven defeats.

Lee's three-run homer, his first this season, put Florida ahead
4-0 in the third against Horacio Ramirez (1-2). Penny, a .152 career hitter, hit a solo homer estimated at 375 feet and then reported the hit broke his bat.

"That's like 'The Natural,''' teammate Braden Looper said.

Penny (1-1) allowed seven hits and left after five innings with
a 7-4 lead. His other start this season was a 13-4 loss Sunday at
Atlanta.

The right-hander was on the ropes in the first, when the Braves had runners at the corners with two outs. Penny struck out Andruw Jones to end the threat, then threw a celebratory uppercut in the air as he walked to the dugout.

"I noticed,'' said Javier Lopez, who was on deck for the Braves. "We'll just have to catch him some other time.''

Blaine Neal, Tim Spooneybarger and Armando Almanza each worked a scoreless inning for Florida before Looper converted his first save opportunity, lowering his ERA to 1.29.

"It was a nice job by our pitching staff, not to mention nice hitting by our pitcher,'' manager Jeff Torborg said.

Looper threw out Robert Fick for the final out after taking a
liner off the inside of his pitching arm. Looper said his arm was
sore after the game, but the injury wasn't believed to be serious.

The Marlins won their third game in a row since Torborg shook up
his lineup. New No. 2 hitter Luis Castillo went 3-for-4 and scored
twice, and new cleanup hitter Juan Encarnacion drove in three runs
with a triple and a single.

Juan Pierre singled leading off the first and has at least one
hit in all 11 games, extending his Marlins record at the start of a
season.

Florida opened the scoring in the third. Pierre was hit by a
pitch, took third on a single by Castillo and scored on
Encarnacion's single. Lee's two-out homer made it 4-0.

Atlanta answered with two in the fourth. Chipper Jones singled,
Andruw Jones doubled and Marcus Giles hit a two-out, two-run single.

Then came Penny's homer.

"I left it over the plate, and he crushed it,'' Ramirez said.
"It was 2-0 and I thought he was taking. I was wrong. I should
have known better.''

"It was a huge blow,'' Chipper Jones said. "But Horacio was a little bit off his game.''

Ivan Rodriguez walked for the 10th time in four games, and this
time the strategy backfired. After Castillo doubled with two outs
in the fourth, Rodriguez was walked intentionally, and Encarnacion
followed with a two-run triple to make it 7-2.

Gary Sheffield hit a two-out double and Chipper Jones homered in
the fifth.

Ramirez allowed eight hits and seven runs in five innings.

Chipper Jones went 2-for-2 against Penny, improving his
career average against the right-hander to .476 (10-for-21). ...
Penny was the first Florida pitcher to hit a home run since Michael
Tejera last June 26. ... Gerald Williams, making only his second
start in left field for Florida, stumbled and fell chasing a
first-inning fly by Fick but still made the catch. ... Afer
Encarnacion's triple, the Braves retired the final 13 Florida
batters.
