MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins took a seven-run lead into the seventh inning, and then had to work a little extra to pull out their first win of the season.

Christian Yelich drove in three runs, including a game-ending RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Marlins to a 10-9 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.

Giancarlo Stanton also had three RBIs and Michael Morse drove in two for the Marlins, who led 8-1 before the Rays scored seven runs in the seventh to tie it.

"Hopefully that's the hardest one we have to get," said pitcher Dan Haren, who made his Marlins debut. "We can win a few a little easier than that. Maybe it's tough getting the first one. Everyone was pressing a little bit and it definitely was good to come out on the right side of that because that would have really stunk not winning that one."

Haren left after six solid innings and the Marlins holding their big lead, but the Rays tied the game.

Stanton gave the Marlins a 9-8 lead with a tiebreaking RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

However, the Rays tied it again. Brandon Guyer led off the ninth with a double against Marlins closer Steve Cishek and scored the tying run when first baseman Morse chose to attempt a game-ending double play on a ground ball by Asdrubal Cabrera. Cabrera beat Adeiny Hechavarria's throw back to first.

In the 10th, Dee Gordon doubled down the right-field line with one out against Brad Boxberger (0-1) before Yelich drove a ground ball through the left side, scoring Gordon without a throw home.

"He was working me away, away, away and there was a hole over there and the ball found it and Dee was able to score," Yelich said.

Bryan Morris (1-0) pitched one inning to earn the victory.

Miami, which beat Tampa Bay for the fifth consecutive time, scored just three runs in its first three games before Friday's outburst to avoid a franchise-worst 0-4 start.

"I just felt that we were going to win that game the whole night," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Despite what happened the attitude was good and guys were battling."

David DeJesus had a three-run triple and Kevin Kiermaier hit his second home run for the Rays.

"I don't know if I've been a part of something like this," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "It was just amazing. I would think these guys would be feeling pretty good about themselves carrying over to the next game."

Miami scored six runs in the fourth off Erasmo Ramirez to take an 8-1 lead, keyed by a two-run single by Yelich and two-run double by Stanton, who broke out of a 1-for-9 slump to start the season with his first RBIs. Hechavarria and Morse also drove in runs for the Marlins in the inning.

"This is my first game (of the season), but that's no excuse," Ramirez said. "I was supposed to throw strikes and keep the score to 1-1 or maybe 2-1, but I didn't."

Miami relievers David Phelps and Sam Dyson combined to issue three bases-loaded walks in the seventh inning allowing the Rays to pull to 8-4. DeJesus then had a pinch-hit, three-run triple to right-center field off A.J. Ramos and Cabrera singled to score DeJesus to tie it at 8-all.

"I don't know if it was because it was `Zombine Night', but we just couldn't find the zone," Cishek said of the bullpen woes. "But the best part about baseball was that our boys picked us up so it was a great outcome in the end."

The Marlins led 2-0 before Keirmaier's solo home run to right field in the top of the fourth.

Tampa Bay's Steve Geltz allowed one run in two innings in his first career start.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Rays: OF John Jaso (left wrist contusion) was placed on the 15-day disabled list before the game giving the team a major league-high nine players on the DL. OF Mikie Mahtook was recalled from Triple A-Durham in a corresponding move and he made his big-league debut when he pinch-hit for Geltz in the third inning and lined out.

STANTON THROWS OUT ANOTHER RUNNER

Stanton is better known for his bat, but last year's NL Gold Glove finalist also has a strong arm as he showcased in the first when he threw out Cabrera at second base when Cabrera tried stretching a single into a double. It was Stanton's second assist of the season as he doubled up Atlanta's Nick Markakis at first base following a diving catch on Wednesday.

KIERMAIER SHOWING POWER

Kiermaier hit his second home run of the season in his 11th at-bat and came into the game as the only American Leaguer with a double, triple, and homer. The 24-year old hit 10 home runs in 331 at-bats last season.

Marlins: RHP Jarred Cosart makes his season debut. Cosart was fined after an MLB investigation earlier this month for gambling on sports. However, MLB ruled that Cosart did not gamble on baseball.
