Robbie Brady's two goals carry Ireland to win over United States

Robbie Brady helped himself to a superb double as the Republic of Ireland defeated the United States 4-1 in a friendly on Tuesday in Dublin.

Brady produced a deft 55th-minute finish and then dispatched a late free-kick to cement the victory. Goals from Anthony Pilkington and Brady either side of halftime eclipsed Mix Diskerud's equaliser.

Coming off Friday's 2-1 defeat to Colombia in London, the Americans have lost consecutive games for the first time since late 2011, while the four-game winless streak is their longest since Jurgen Klinsmann replaced Bob Bradley as coach in July 2011.

Ireland debutant David McGoldrick was involved in the first two goals in a team performance which went some of the way toward easing the disappointment of Friday's 1-0 Euro 2016 qualifying defeat in Scotland.

Ireland were in front with seven minutes played when McGoldrick announced his arrival on the international stage with a telling assist.

The Ipswich striker played in Pilkington with a superbly-weighted pass and looked on as the Cardiff midfielder applied an assured finish to claim his first senior international goal.

Daryl Murphy was denied a second goal by keeper Bill Hamid's instinctive save, but Ireland found themselves playing on the break for much of the first half and finally succumbed when Diskerud levelled with 39 minutes gone.

Jozy Altidore's lofted cross into the penalty area fell to Chris Wondolowski. He dropped a cushioned header to Diskerud, who used the outside of his right foot to flick the ball low into the right corner of the net as chants of "U-S-A! U-S-A!"' rang out in Aviva Stadium.

Goalkeeper Shay Given, winning his 127th cap, was grateful for the assistance of both the post and the crossbar as Fabian Johnson and then Altidore came close to beating him before the halftime whistle sounded.

Given had to be at his best to keep out an Altidore piledriver five minutes into the second half, but it was the Republic who made the breakthrough once again when Brady made the most of more good work by McGoldrick to fire them back in front.

Substitute James McClean extended the home side's advantage with eight minutes remaining with a shot that deflected off defender Geoff Cameron and past Hamid.

Brady then capped a good night with the best goal of the game as he curled a 25-yard free kick into the corner as time ran down .

Jordan Morris, a 20-year-old forward who is a Stanford sophomore, made his debut in the 76th minute. The U.S. Soccer Federation says no college player has appeared for the national team since Ante Razov in 1995, the year before Major League Soccer started.
