Javier Hernandez leads Mexico's victory over Honduras

TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico -- Striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez had a successful return to the Mexican national team on Thursday night, scoring a goal as Mexico broke a five-year drought without beating Honduras, winning 2-0 in a friendly.

Hernandez took a pass from Oribe Peralta and scored Mexico's opening goal in the 21st minute.

It was Hernandez's 37th goal in a Mexico shirt, puttin him just two shy of tying Cuauhtémoc Blanco as the second-leading scorer in history. First place is withdrawn Jared Borgetti, who accumulated 46.

Oswaldo Alanis headed in a Marco Fabian corner kick in the 36th minute to double the lead for Mexico.

Mexico earned their second win in three games since the World Cup in Brazil. Next up is Panama on Sunday in Queretaro, about 300 kilometers north of Mexico City.

The pressure increased on Honduras coach, Hernan Medford Costa after a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Copa Centroamericana.

The Hondurans will seek a better result when they face the United States on Tuesday in Boca Raton, Florida.
